EL RENO — After several rainouts, Shawnee captured its first victory of the 2017 campaign with a 13-0 decision over Western Heights Friday at the El Reno Tournament.
Shawnee opened the tournament and season earlier in the day with a 4-3 setback to Comanche.
Opposite Western Heights, Shawnee needed just three innings to earn the run-rule win.
The Lady Wolves scored seven times in the top of the first as Tatum Sparks, Tiara Blackshire, Carly Torbett, Laynie Rimer, Billie Wilburne, Kallie Kasterke and Kristin Haddox scored.
Sparks hit a home run to lead off the game.
Victorious pitcher Noriah Perez allowed just one hit, fanned five and walked one in getting the victory.
Comanche scored four runs in the top of the fifth, then limited Shawnee to two runs in the bottom of the sixth for the final margin. The game was called after six innings on a time-limit rule.
Losing pitcher Baylie Enright, in a six-inning stint, surrendered six hits. She struck out nine and walked four.
Blackshire led Shawnee offensively with a double, single, one run scored and one RBI.
Torbett had two singles and drove in a run.
Shawnee, 1-1, will continue El Reno Tournament action at 11:30 a.m. today against Lawton MacArthur.
