SULPHUR — John Graham had plenty of praise for his Prague squad after its 2017 campaign closed Friday night with a 34-14 loss to perennial power Sulphur in Class 3A quarterfinal action.
“I am proud of the boys, the fight they had every single week,” Graham said. “We adopted the motto, ‘Next Man up,’ because of all the injuries and they stepped up. I really felt like we did something special, winning a home playoff game and getting to the second round.
“I am very proud of them and proud of the coaches for all they have given.”
Sulphur, 11-1, led 14-6 at halftime. Red Devil senior Calvin Boyce scored from the 2-yard line in the second quarter. The point-after kick was blocked.
The touchdown was set up by a trick play in which Boyce took a lateral and tossed a 40-yard completion to senior Jake Schultz.
Trailing 34-7 in the fourth quarter, Prague scored on a 20-yard run by Boyce. The Red Devils used a pass from Trent Palmer to Elway Farriell for the 2-point conversion.
