SHAWNEE – The No. 18 in Class 6A Shawnee senior leadership showed up to trounce 5A No. 8 Carl Albert 59-33 at the PAAC in Shawnee Tuesday night.

Kasey Rice led the way for Shawnee with 23 points and five rebounds and was the defensive force she has been known to be day in and day out.

“I think we expect Kasey to have 15 or 20 points every night and get every rebound and guard everyone's best player,” coach Wendi Wells said. “She just plays so hard. I've never had someone play that hard the entire game. It seems like she never gets tired and she's just in the middle of everything.”

Rice kicked off the game with a 3-pointer and her and Monica Brooks controlled the first quarter. Rice finished the first eight minutes with nine points on three 3-pointers and Brooks had eight in the 20-13 first quarter run while Brooklynne Price also provided a triple.

Brooks sat out last season with an injury but started her sophomore year and showed her prior experience along with Rice in the opening minutes.

“Just to have that game experience against all the strong opponents that we've faced, it allows them to come into games a little more relaxed,” Wells said.

Rice kept up the pace late in the second as she rounded out with six points of an 8-0 run to close out the half for the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Wolves had some trouble keeping ahold of the ball in the first half but calmed down during the break to take better care of their possessions. Wells attributed that lapse to being in only their second home game of the season as a nervous, young team.

“You want to show people what we've been doing, how we've been doing on the road and so we came out and they put a little too much pressure on themselves early on... They've just got to calm down, relax and play the game,” she said.

Brooks kicked off a 10-3 Shawnee run to start the second half capped on a fast break layup by Rice. Carl Albert closed the third with a 6-2 run to make it a 48-28 game going into the fourth.

Carl Albert was scoreless for over half of the fourth, netting their first bucket on a 3-pointer with 3:45 to go.

Rice led all scorers, Brooks had 14 points and seven boards and Tramble had nine points, nine rebounds and three assists.

Shawnee (4-2) will host Ada Friday before having some time off for the Christmas break.
