ASHER – Sarah Fleming and Ashley Odell both scored in the double digits but didn't have enough help in a 68-36 Asher home loss to No. 2 in Class B Varnum Monday.
The Lady Indians had a narrow 10-9 lead after the first quarter but fell behind 27-23 at the half. Varnum completely controlled the second half 41-13 to cruise to a win.
Fleming had 12 points in the loss and Odell had 11 and was 3-5 from 3-point range. Jessica King was the next highest scorer with five points, Gracy Hadley had four and Rayanna Cheatwood and Braxten Frazier each had two.
Fleming had 13 rebounds to finish with a double-double and Frazier had five assists and 11 boards but turned the ball over 14 times. The Lady Indians gave up the ball 40 times.
Asher shot better than Varnum, with a 40 percent overall field goal percentage and shot 57 percent for their 3-pointers. They also controlled the boards, 41-23.
Asher, No. 12 in Class B, drops to 5-6 on the season with the loss. They host Stratford tonight at 6:30.
