DALE – Gabe Gouge had an explosive third quarter to lead Dale to a 54-45 win over Rejoice Christian in the district championship game at Dale Saturday.
The Pirates held a 20-16 lead at the half, but Gouge put up 15 of his 24 total points in the third in an 18-11 run to push ahead and help seal the win.
Rejoice Christian led 10-8 after the first, but a 12-6 Pirates run in the second gave Dale the advantage at the halfway point and Gouge's third quarter performance stretched out the lead.
Gouge led all scorers, had two 3-pointers and was 6-7 from the free throw line. Dustin Thompson and Logan Woodruff had nine points, Brady Johnson had seven and Dallen Forsythe finished with five. The team shot 16-24 from the charity stripe.
Justin Scay led Rejoice Christian with 16 points and Jaden Lietzke had 11.
The 15-11 Pirates have now won nine of their last 10 games as they move into regional play at Rejoice Christian. They open up at eight Thursday against Luther.
