CHECOTAH—Ticket punched. The Prague Lady Red Devils, behind a monster performance by freshman Chantae Embry, are headed to next weekend's Class 3A State Tournament after a 47-35 win over the Hugo Lady Buffalo's, Saturday night.

“Wow!,” said Prague head coach Benny Burnett. “Wow is how I described what that 15 year old (Embry) did tonight.”

You name it, Embry did it. She scored, she rebounded, she defended and she brought the ball up the court against the pesky, rough man to man full court pressure defense of Hugo. The only thing she and her Lady Red Devil running mates did not do, was being denied a trip to the State Tournament.

Embry finished with 31 points, 13 rebounds and four blocked shots. “We came in to tonight with the mindset that we weren't going to be denied,” said Embry.

The two teams battled it out in the first half with Prague holding the biggest advantage of 21-16 with 4:39 left in the second quarter. Hugo tied it up at 21-21 with 2:44 left, but a bucket by Adisyn Auld and another by Embry grew the Prague lead to 25-21 at intermission.

Enter the Prague defense.

In the second half Hugo was held to just five field goals and scored only 14 second half points.

“Our defense did a great job tonight,” said Burnett. “We came out with a lot of energy and kept them off of the boards.”

Offensively, Prague played with patience and took full advantage of the rough and tumble play of Hugo, hitting 13 of 15 from the charity stripe in the second half. The Lady Red Devils led 33-23 at the end of the third quarter and steadily increased it throughout the final period.

Embry was the only Lady Red Devil in double figure scoring. Morgan Cooper added seven for Prague.

Hugo was led by Jamie Freeman, who scored all nine of her points from beyond the arc.

With the victory, Prague improves to 24-3 on the year and will await their State Tournament draw, which begins on Thursday.
