TECUMSEH – The losing streak was almost ended for Tecumseh Saturday, but the Savages came up just short of a comeback in a 12-11 home loss to Newcastle in extra innings.

Tecumseh trailed 12-9 going into the bottom of the ninth but an RBI single from Kullen Meadows and groundout from Tristian Anthony to bring home Byron Thompson got the Savages within one with two outs. Andrew Lewis was unable to get a ball in play with Meadows at scoring position.

Thomposon, Meadows, Jayden Shafer, Will Hilton, Kameron Permetter and Gage Boatman each had two hits and Shafer drove in two runs. Thompson, Anthony and Lewis each had a double.

The Savages trailed 4-1 going to the bottom of the third but a bases loaded walk to Anthony and a two-run error with two outs tied the game up at 4.

Tecumseh took a 7-5 lead in the fifth on one-run singles from Hilton, Permetter and Thompson but Newcastle regained the lead with four runs in the top of the sixth. Boatman and Shafer each took walks with the bases juiced in the bottom frame and the teams went neck and neck into the ninth.

Two RBI singles and a passed ball gave Newcastle a 12-9 lead in the top of the ninth and the Savages were unable to bounce back.

Lewis received the loss on the mound after giving up three unearned runs on three hits in the closing innings. He sat down two and walked one. Boatman got the start and walked three and gave up four runs on one hit in 1 1/3 innings pitched. Thompson relieved him in the second and pitched 3 2/3 innings to give up five hits and three runs, struck out two and walked one. Permetter relieved him for one inning and gave up two runs on two hits.

Tecumseh will host 2-1 McLoud Monday at 5 p.m. and will play at McLoud at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
