TECUMSEH – The Lady Savages were minus four starters to split their first two games of the Tecumseh-Dale festival Friday at Tecumseh. The girls lost their opener 12-3 to Tushka but rebounded with a 13-1 trouncing of Bethel.
Coach Perry Wilson started seven freshmen on his young team, who earned some quick experience.
“We're excited about it and they're going to get better,” he said. “They believe in what we're doing.”
Gabi Jordan and Taylor Walker each drove in three runs in the three inning night cap against Bethel and the Lady Savages put on eight runs in the bottom of the first.
Walker sent a two-run shot to left to start the rally and Jordan later hit a two-run bomb to take a 5-0 lead. Hannah Frizzell singled to drive in Jaylen Hazleton and Ayzia Shirey hit a 3-bagger to bring in a pair of runs.
Back to back doubles by Hazleton and Jordan drove in three runs in the second, a double by Walker scored Shirey in the third and Frizzell added a sacrifice to bring in Channing Scallorn with the walk-off.
Shirey, Taylor Frizzell and Hazleton drove in two runs apiece and Hazleton doubled twice.
Peyton Meiler, Harley Gregory and Skylar Pollard each grabbed a hit for the Lady Wildcats.
Gregory and Pollard hit back to back singles in the second and Kenna Lee reached on an error that allowed Bailey Sanchez to score with two outs in the first.
Wilson and his team will have a challenge as they host Broken Bow Saturday in the second round of the tournament, but he's looking forward to seeing how his girls perform.
“Broken Bow from what I know has lost 2 girls off last year's team, we lost eight,” he said. “It's a challenge but I think the girls are ready to battle that and I look forward to playing them tomorrow.”
The Lady Savages also have big games up ahead next week with a pair of conference games before heading to Muskogee for a tournament full of other 6A talent.
“We're excited about next week,” Wilson said.
Tushka 12, Tecumseh 3
Tushka took a 5-0 lead in the top of the first and never gave up the lead in a 12-3 Tecumseh loss.
Walker doubled in the bottom frame to score Shirey and an error and fielder's choice brought in two in the sixth.

The Lady Wildcats gave up 10 runs on 11 hits in a 10-0 loss over four innings against Leedey to start the tournament.
