STROUD – The Red Devils of Prague came up just short of an extra-inning comeback in their final game of the Stroud Tournament with a 6-5 loss against Wellston after eight innings Saturday.
Jake Schultz sent a double to left to bring home Isaac Bloomer in the bottom of the seventh and force the game into the extra inning.
The Devils allowed four runs in the top of the eighth and were unable to get four back across to keep the game going. Alex Anderson doubled to score Logan Johnson, who led off with an HBP, Trevor Mills socred on a wild pitch and Bloomer grounded out to score Anderson.
Wellston took the lead on a two-run homer in the top of the first but was held off from there. Schultz singled in the bottom of the first to bring in Anderson and cut the lead in half.
Schultz went 3-4 with a double and drove in two runs to lead Prague's offense. Anderson was 2-4 with a double and Cullen Davis was walked once and hit by pitch once to reach base on two of four occasions.
Davis pitched for seven innings and and started the eighth, struck out four and walked two. Schultz came in to close things out and gave up one run on one hit.
Prague (8-8) will travel to Little Axe Tuesday at 4:30.
