SHAWNEE – Edmond Santa Fe score three goals on three Shawnee mistakes in a 3-1 win over the Wolves Tuesday.

“Three mistakes, three goals," coach Jason Merrell said. "In order to beat teams at this level, we've got to eliminate those big mistakes.”

Ricky Divelbiss scored the only goal of the night with 7:45 left in the first half, off of a corner kick by Lucas Gann.

The loss was all the more disappointing for Merrell because of how it happened, against another team they could have beaten.

"It's definitely frustrating to be right up there and be as good as a team and make mistakes that impact the outcome in such a major way," he said.

Santa Fe made their first goal of the game on a penalty kick with 33:49 left in the first half and moved ahead 2-0 on a free kick from 30 yards out in the 14th minute.

Edmond earned another goal off a penalty kick with 34:21 in the second half to go ahead 3-1.

Even with the wind in their favor, Shawnee struggled to keep the ball downfield in the second half and didn't find a lot of opportunites.

Seth King nearly had a breakaway goal with 2:40 left to play, but his shot went just wide. He had another shot shortly after but Edmond made the save.

Josh Floyd was a one man show for a lot of the first half and had three quality shots on goal, but had all three narrowly blocked as Edmond made five saves on six shots.

“With his speed he's able to get back behind those defenders, he's just not putting them away," Merrell said.

The loss drops the Wolves to 8-5 on the season as they prepare to face Norman in a road game Friday. They will host Owasso for Senior Night, April 24.
