OKLAHOMA CITY – Kayla Garza and Hayden Powell survived the first day of tennis in the Class 6A state tennis tournament at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center Friday.

Garza and Powell lost their first round match in No. 2 doubles to seventh-seeded Kajioka and Purvis from Edmond Santa Fe 2-6. 2-0. They bounced back to beat Muskogee's Church and Eaton 7-6, 6-2 to move on to the second day of action.

Olivia Stobbe played in No. 2 singles competition and lost her first match to No. 3 seed Addison Miller of Deer Creek 6-0, 6-0 to open things up. She lost her second match to Yukon's Taylor Shipes 3-6, 7-5 to drop out of the tournament.

Garza and Powell will play today at 9:15.
