BIXBY — Shawnee’s 2018 baseball campaign came to a an abrupt end Friday as Bixby posted an 11-0, run-rule victory in a Class 6A regional tournament elimination contest.

Shawnee opened proceedings Thursday with a 10-3 opening-game loss to Jenks and a 3-1 triumph over Muskogee in an elimination matchup.

Bixby led Shawnee just 3-0 going into the bottom of the fourth but recorded eight runs. When Shawnee couldn’t score in the top of the fifth, the game was stopped on the run rule.

Three Shawnee pitchers — Cale Reed, Jay Easley and Brandon Eropkin — saw action.

Shawnee finished with five hits, all singles. Three of the hits came via the bunt. No SHS performer had more than one hit.

Reed and Kade Self are Shawnee’s sole seniors.

Of their three-game regional experience, Paxson said, “We left too many guys on base. We weren’t getting key hits and we didn’t make crucial pitches in crucial situations.

“We’re really young. It was a growing experience for a lot of these kids, who had been playing junior-varsity ball, and we were also going into Class 6A.”

Shawnee finished 16-18.
