VIAN – Chandler beat Spiro and Vian Saturday to stay alive in their Class 3A regional and enter into a state tournament play-in game with Vian Monday.

The Lions took down Spiro 9-2 to earn a spot against Vian for the regional title and beat Vian 7-4 in their first game to give them their first loss in the double elimination tournament.

Drake Irby had two hits and drove in four runs to help in the win against Spiro and Garrett Thomsen had two sacrifices to bring in two runs.

Irby went the complete game on the mound and gave up two runs on three hits for the win. He struck out five and walked two.

Chandler took the lead early against Vian and never gave up the advantage.

Cole Yeager had a two-run home run, Irby and Dylan Messer had two hits with a double.

Hutch Underwood threw the complete game win, struck out four and gave up six hits.

“Hutch hit his spots and did his job,” coach Dillon Endecott said.

Endecott was proud of how well his guys have taken care of business so far, particularly against Vian.

“They're a good hitting ball team,” he said.

The Lions will play Vian again Monday at 4 for a spot in the state tournament.
