ENID – Oklahoma Baptist dropped two games in the Great American Conference Baseball Championships Tuesday, falling to Southern Arkansas 5-2 and 16-3.
The Bison now must await the outcomes of other conference tournaments and a final region ranking to see if their season's body of work is good enough to reach the NCAA Central Region Tournament.
An official determination is expected Sunday.
In the final game of the tournament, OBU broke out to a 2-0 lead in the third when Brett Berghammer singled before Brett Bloomfield launched a two-run home run to left.
The Muleriders got one in the third, chasing starter Caleb Bly, but the Bison got that run back with a solo home run by Josh Timms in the top of the fourth.
SAU plated two runs in the fifth to tie the game and tacked on 13 in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
Chris Kovach struck out three batters in his scoreless 2.1 innings of work.
OBU had eight hits in the game, led by Gelphman with two.
Southern Arkansas extended to 15 its streak of elimination game wins in Enid and terminated OBU's 23-game postseason win streak.
In the first game, Southern Arkansas scored three in the bottom of the first and added two more in the fifth before the Bison got on the board in the top of the sixth.
Jake Gozzo drew a four-pitch, two-out walk and PJ Harris doubled him home on the first pitch he saw in the at bat, driving a ball to near the base of the right field wall.
OBU added another run in the seventh. Garrett McKee and Berghammer singled and McKee scored on a two-out error.
Albertus Barber started for the Bison and went five innings before giving way to Andrew Eppenbach. Eppenbach tossed three scoreless innings.
OBU had five hits, including two by McKee.
Juan Gonzalez, Josh Timms and Thomas Shroder were named to the All-Tournament team.
