This week: Juneteenth is observed Tuesday
- Tuesday is Juneteenth, a holiday that celebrates the end of slavery in the U.S. Forty-one states recognize Juneteenth as a state holiday or observance, and there is a movement to have it declared a national holiday. June 19, 1865, was when the last slaves - in Galveston, Texas – were finally informed of their freedom.
