SSM Health opens new sensory therapy room in Shawnee facility
SSM Health Medical Group is pleased to announce the opening of a new pediatric sensory therapy room.
The sensory therapy room was created to meet children’s unique needs and to help develop appropriate responses to different sensory stimuli, improve gross and fine motor functions as well as integrate reflexes that may be preventing more complex or coordinated movement. The new therapy room is also designed to service children with a range of neurological and development delays to promote success in appropriate play.
“The new therapy room is a great addition to the pediatric services we already provide,” says Aaron Hayes, Physical Therapist, SSM Health Medical Group. “The space is designed to promote sensory change in hyper- and hypo-responsive children, as well as offering opportunities for self-regulation and meaningful therapeutic activities.”
The sensory therapy room is located on the first floor of SSM Health Medical Group, 3315 Kethley, Shawnee. The room includes items such as:
Therapeutic jungle gym
Ceiling suspension with options for multiple types of swings based on sensory needs
Sensory equipment to stimulate tactile, auditory, visual, vestibular sensory systems and much more.
SSM Health Medical Group Therapy Services provides comprehensive pediatric services with a therapy team consisting of occupational, speech and physical therapists who specialize in the treatment of a wide range of pediatric conditions and disorders.
