This month, the Greater Shawnee, Tecumseh and Seminole Parent Legislative Action Committee (Greater STAS PLAC) officially launched, joining the efforts of thousands of local parents statewide in advocating for strong, equitable public schools for every child in Oklahoma.

The group joins the effort for fully-funded public schools in their local communities and across the state. More than 90% of school-age children in Oklahoma attend public schools and over 200,000 of those students are represented by a local PLAC. The Greater STAS PLAC is the 16th local PLAC to join the Oklahoma PLAC coalition.

“We know that an excellent system of public schools is possible. We look forward to working with our state legislators in supporting legislation that focuses our resources on authentic public schools and opposing schemes like vouchers that send public dollars to private schools. Continued investment is the best way to serve all students by allowing innovation and specialization in our schools,” said Sandra Valentine, Greater STAS co-founder and public school parent.

Local parents are encouraged to get involved by first visiting the Greater STAS PLAC Facebook page at where information will be shared regarding legislation impacting education as well as plans for events to connect members with elected officials.
