Family Promise of Shawnee, a local nonprofit aimed at helping transform the lives of area homeless children and families, announced online Monday that the organization lacks resources to sustain continued operations.

“After a lot of prayer and discussion, Family Promise of Shawnee regrets having come to the conclusion that we no longer have the resources needed to sustain continued operations,” the nonprofit announced on its Facebook page and website,

“We are grateful for every dollar given, every night stayed, every meal served, every mile walked, and every errand run that has allowed countless families with children experiencing homelessness to stay together and transition to long term stabilization.”

The mission of Family Promise of Shawnee, which began operations in 2005, is aimed at helping homeless and low-income families in need achieve self-sufficiency and independence.

Monday's announcement followed another post dated Feb. 19 seeking support as Family Promise of Shawnee was said to be in a financial crisis.
