MOORE — Hannah Vandenbrand, a 5-foot, 10-inch junior, sank two free throws with 0.3 remaining, propelling Chandler’s girls to a 37-35 victory over Perry in a Class 3A regional losers’ bracket contest Saturday.

With the score knotted at 35 and seven seconds left, Chandler coach Rodney Treat

called timeout to draw up a play. Morgan Fowble took the inbounds pass, drove toward the goal and missed a shot. Vandenbrand collared the rebound and was fouled on a follow-shot attempt.

Prior to Treat’s timeout, Chandler drained 1:32 off the clock via a delay game.

Chandler earned an area tournament berth by outscoring Perry 11-5 over the last eight minutes.

Leah Brannon and Fowble shared scoring honors with 10 points. Brannon netted four points in the fourth quarter while Fowble had three.

“All week long, we talked about attacking the rim and we did a good job on it,” Treat said. “We also did a great job on defense of holding them to just one shot.”

Senior Jaedyn Wayland notched Chandler’s only 3-point field goal.

Chandler (18-9) will launch area tournament action at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Western Heights. Treat’s squad will square off against Chisholm.
