James "Jim” Telford Guinn Sr.

James "Jim” Telford Guinn Senior died peacefully in Seminole on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2020, at the age of 83.

Jim Sr. loved taking long drives on weekends. His most precious possessions were boxes of old photos of his family and friends. In the end, all here and any connected from afar know that James Telford Guinn I left a meaningful legacy through his connection to his siblings, and through his sons and grandchildren.

Jim was born on Aug. 14, 1936, in Ada, Oklahoma, to Henry and Anna B. (Reaves) Guinn. He graduated from Bethel High School in 1954.

He proudly served his country with the United States Navy. While serving in the Navy, Jim met and married Amy Jane Pedro-Nones on Jan. 25, 1960. After serving in the Navy, Jim moved to California for one year to work for Pacific Gas and Electric (PGE). He then joined the police department in Middletown Rhode Island where he worked for 25 years. Jim spent his retirement as a resident of Shawnee; choosing to be near his brother and two sisters. He enjoyed bowling and visiting with friends.

Jim is survived by his son and daughter-in-law James T. Guinn II and Nicole Davis and his son and daughter-in-law Dale F. Guinn and Beth Obrien. He is also survived by his grandchildren Emily Ann Guinn, Sophie Guinn, Aurielia Davis-Guinn, Caleb Thomas Guinn and Bailey Rose Guinn. He is also survived by his sister Sue Minyard and her family and his sister-in-law Patricia Ann (Hallman) Guinn and her family.

He is preceded in death by the mother of his sons Amy Pedro-Nones, who remained in contact with Jim until her death Aug. 13, 2015. He is also preceded in death by his parents, his sister Berna Dean Humphrey and his brother Dale Guinn of Shawnee.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, March 7, at Blackburn Chapel Baptist Church in Bethel Acres with a reception to follow. Pastor Dale Griffin of Shawnee will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate James T. Guinn Sr.’s life.
