Bethel rolls up 18 hits in triumph

BETHEl ACRES — The Wildcats of Bethel had their hitting shoes on Thursday en route to a season-opening 19-10 triumph over Luther.

Bethel prevailed despite Luther tallying nine runs in the top of the first inning. Luther’s only other run came in the top of the fourth.

Bethel accumulated 18 hits, including home runs by LW Moore, Jaylon Gordon and Gunner Smith.

Leadoff batter Carter Monday went 4-for-5, all singles, stole three bases and scored three runs.

Moore added a double to his three-hit day. Kandon Mitchell went 3-for-4, including a double,

Jaylon Gordon and Smith netted two hits apiece.

Smith, who went the final 5 1/3 innings on the mound, earned the win. He fanned six and walked three.

Bethel will be home against Riverside today for a 5 p.m. doubleheader. The Wildcats will play host to Seminole at 4:30 Thursday.
