Bethel powerlifters place in regionals; four Wildcats qualify for state
BRIDGE CREEK – Four Bethel High School powerlifters placed in the top five of regionals while four more Wildcats also qualified for state during regional competition this past weekend at Bridge Creek High School.
Bethel was competing with schools in Classes 6A, 5A, 4A and 3A.
The Wildcats' Corey Metscher took second place in the 198-pound weight class. Harrison Thomas, in the 123-pound division, and Krisdom Compton, at 275 pounds, each took fourth place and Dezmen Loving, in the 145-pound division, finished fifth as all four are automatic state qualifiers.
Travis Byars (123-pound division), Garret Washburn (157), Keaton Robinson (157) and CJ Compton (heavyweight) each qualified for the Wildcats after being among the next best five scores involving all regionals.
Metscher had a 430-pound squat, 260 bench and 520 deadlift for a total of 1,210 pounds.
Thomas totaled 765 pounds after a 250 squat, 185 bench and 330 deadlift. Krisdom Compton ended up with 1,185 pounds after a 475 squat, 260 bench and 450 deadlift.
Loving posted a 270 squat, 200 bench and 415 deadlift for a total of 885 pounds.
Byars ended up with 655 total pounds after a 200 squat, 155 bench and 300 deadlift. Washburn totaled 935 pounds after a 315 squat, 215 bench and 405 deadlift.
Robinson had a 305 squat, 260 bench and 360 deadlift for 925 pounds. CJ Compton finished with a 470 squat, 240 bench and 525 deadlift for 1,235 pounds.
The state meet is set for Friday at El Reno High School.
