Dale girls earn berth for Class 2A State Tournament
ADA – After suffering an area finals loss to top-ranked Vanoss on Friday, the fifth-ranked Dale Lady Pirates came out Saturday and took care of business with a 67-31 trouncing of the 18th-ranked Allen Lady Mustangs, thus earning a spot in the upcoming Class 2A Girls' State Tournament.
Dale, 20-9, drained 10 3-point shots on the night with Jacie McClure leading the way with four, followed by Danyn Lang with three, Elaine Witt with two and Faith Wright with one.
McClure tossed in a game-high 17 points. Lang added 13 and Elaine Witt ad Brook Rutland ended up with eight apiece.
McClure nailed all four of her treys in the second half – two each in the third and fourth quarters. Lang canned two of her 3-pointers in the third quarter and Rutland tallied all eight of her points in the fourth period.
Kinsey Nix was the high-scorer for Allen with 10 and Kaylyn Roswey followed with eight in a losing cause. Nix knocked down a pair of treys in the game.
Leading 14-9 after one quarter, the Lady Pirates blitzed Allen with a 13-2 second quarter in snatching a 27-11 advantage at the break. Dale then used 19-12 and 21-8 third and fourth quarters to make it a rout.
The Lady Pirates converted 9-of-11 free throws on the night.
Dale will take on a familiar foe in third-ranked Latta in the first round of the Class 2A State Tournament on Thursday at 2 p.m. at Mustang High School. The Dale-Latta winner will then square off with the Hartshorne-Silo survivor at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the State Fairgrounds Arena (also known as the 'Big House'). Hartshorne is ranked seventh while Silo is ranked second.
Note: The Dale boys, ranked third, will face eighth-ranked Pawnee Thursday at 8:30 p.m. in the first round of the Class 2A Boys' State Tournament at Yukon High School. The Dale-Pawnee winner will meet the Cashion-Hooker winner Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Yukon High School. Cashion is ranked second while Hooker is ranked ninth.
