Vicky O. Misa

Bethel High School senior Hudson Haskins, one of the two January finalists, was named the Shawnee News-Star and Patriot Auto Group Student of the Month for 2019-20.

Bethel High School Counselor Linsy Ingmire said Haskins has always been a creative and academically-driven student.

“From his early elementary years he was a child that you knew was going to make plans and be a success in life,” she said. “With the help of great parents, Hudson has been able to dream big; he has challenged himself academically from an early age and has been relentless in his academic pursuits.”

Haskins, recognized for his hard work has earned a spot as a finalist for a chance to win a car.

Ingmire said Haskins applied to a pre-engineering academy during his freshman year and began taking those classes as a sophomore.

“This transition is a big commitment and requires students to attend school at two different campuses,” she said. “It's a lot of responsibility for students at such a young age.”

She said he has excelled at both campuses, carrying a 4.292 GPA at the end of his junior year.

“He also enrolled in an EMT Certification program his senior year,” she said. “Not only is Hudson pushing himself during school hours, he has continued to learn in the evening, too.”

She said all the classes and programs are to help him reach his ultimate goal of becoming a physician.

Haskins' extracurricular activities include Student Council, Skills USA, Gordon Cooper Leadership Academy, Stephenson Cancer Institute Teen Board Advocate and National Honor Society.

Parents are Russ and Neisha Haskins.
