Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art Alters Upcoming Events – Off the Wall and ArtsTrek

Due to public health concerns regarding COVID-19, the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art is altering some upcoming events.

The MGMoA has decided to cancel the Arts Trek Reception and Arts Trek Family Day, but Arts Trek will continue as an exhibition. Visitors during the exhibition can still purchase artwork.  The Arts Trek and museum staff have decided that after the CDC posted on their website that "large events and mass gatherings can contribute to the spread of the COVID-19" to cancel the two group events. The Arts Trek Reception for April 5th and the Arts Trek Family Day for April 18th would fall under this category as a large event or gathering. The CDC recommends that during the 8 weeks, beginning March 15th, large events be canceled or postponed.

The MGMoA is sad to cancel both the reception and the family day, but they are able to allow the accepted artists to come and display their artwork for the two weeks that were originally planned. Arts Trek in the past has had an estimated 3,000-4,000 people attend of all ages, along with performers, artists, food vendors, from in and around the Shawnee Community. The Arts Trek Exhibition will be open for viewing April 5th - 17th during normal museum business hours. If you have any questions about Arts Trek please call (405)878-5605.

Off the Wall is rescheduled for Saturday, June 27. If you have purchased tickets and will not be able to attend on this date, please notify us for a refund by calling (405) 878-5604.

The Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art is currently open for regular hours.

“We have been closely monitoring and tracking new developments regarding the coronavirus, as well as information, protocols and procedures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC),” said Dane Pollei, Director of the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art.  “We have increased museum-wide cleaning practices.  But ask that guests refrain from visiting the museum while ill,” he continued.

The museum is currently keeping a close watch on the situation and will evaluate future programs as more information becomes clear.

The Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art is located on the OBU Green campus at 1900 W. MacArthur St. in Shawnee.  The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and 1 to 4 p.m. on Sundays.  Visit www.mgmoa.org for more information.  For accommodations on the basis of disability or more information on this exhibit, call the museum at (405) 878-5300.
