Debra Cheryl Chavez

Debra Cheryl Chavez, 60, of Macomb, went home to the Lord on Friday, April 10, 2020. She passed away in her home surrounded by family.

Debra was born on March 9,1960, in Rising Star, Texas. She grew up in California and Texas.

She married Jose Luis Chavez on Aug. 24, 1991. In 2004, they found their forever home in Macomb and relocated from California.

Debra’s greatest love was spending time with her family. She enjoyed spending countless hours at ballfields or gyms cheering on her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed the lake, beach, and gardening. Cooking was one of her greatest passions. She and her husband built and opened the Chavez Ranch Café in 2007. Debra will be sorely missed, but her memory will live on through all those who knew her.

Debra is preceded in death by her mother, Carol June Rogers, and sister, Nicole Ziegler.

She is survived by her husband and eight children: Shanna and Carlos Franco, Karina and Dakota Mason, Erik and Mandy Chavez, Ivan and Nichole Chavez, Jose Chavez Jr., Anthony Salas, Ben and Crystal Salas, Armando and Paola Garcia; her two sisters and brother, Priscilla and Brian Kent, Kimberly and David Solmi, Joe and Delores Hargrove. Additionally, many grandchildren and many beloved family members.

Debra will be honored in a private family ceremony at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 17, at St. Benedict’s Church in Shawnee. Immediately following her service (lasting approximately 45-50 minutes), the family will be escorted to St. Benedict’s Calvary Cemetery. The family welcomes any who’d like to pay their respects to join them as she is laid to rest at the cemetery.

Service is under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
