Walter L. Girty

Walter L. Girty passed from this life Monday, April 27, 2020, at his home. Walter was 86 years old. After a few months of declining health, Walter died peacefully with his beloved wife Peggy at his side.

Walter left Bethel High School and joined the Navy. He completed his GED in the Navy. He proudly served during the Korean Conflict and received accommodation medals for his service. Upon returning home from his Navy service, Walter spent 40 years working in the auto parts business as a parts manager for several GM dealerships.

Walter was mechanically gifted and enjoyed wood working projects. He also enjoyed sporting events, both watching and helping coach/tutor his grandchildren. He was a high school football official for 20 years. Walter enjoyed the lake house at Lake Eufaula with family and friends.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Juanita and Zollie Knight; one sister, Joy, and one brother, Bob; along with one great-grandson, Tyler Shane.

Those left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 64 years, Peggy, of the home; two daughters, Belinda and Chris Myrick of Bryant, Arkansas, and Brenda and Greg Stroud of Shawnee; five grandchildren, Nicole, Zac, Candice, Tyler and Whitney; along with 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Towana Johnson; one sister in-law, Nancy Knight; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Homer and Anna Palmore, Buddy and Sherry Fields.

Due to the coronavirus, the family will have a private celebration of life for Walt.

The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice for the wonderful care of Walter and our family during this time.
