Shawnee district joins Juul litigation, board elects new officers

Elisabeth Slay

The Shawnee Board of Education approved an agreement with Frantz Law Group to enter a Juul Litigation lawsuit during a regular meeting Monday.

According to Cherity Pennington, Shawnee Public Schools Public Information Officer, this lawsuit is a mass litigation case against Juul Labs, Inc.

"SPS is entering the lawsuit in order to take steps necessary to protect students from the harms of the vaping epidemic," Pennington said.

Pennington said the litigation will not involve out-of-pocket cost to the district.

In addition to the litigation, Pennington said the school board also elected new officers.

They are as follows:

Keith Sandlin is Board President, Larry Walker is first Vice President, Kristen Wilson is second Vice President and April Stobbe is the Clerk.
