Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Office: Short standoff ends in arrest

Michelle Nacole Fields was picked up on a warrant in Shawnee Thursday.

Pottawatomie County Sheriff Mike Booth said, due to a recent incident involving alleged child abuse, on Jan. 8 a felony warrant was issued against Shawnee resident Michelle Nacole Fields, 33.

When the warrants team went out to apprehend Fields Thursday, Booth said she barricaded herself in the attic of her residence on Darrow Street.

“When she wouldn't come down, the team threatened to gas the attic,” he said.

More units of Shawnee Police Department officers were then called in to maintain the safety and security of the suspect and those in the neighborhood.

Within half an hour the ordeal was over; the warrants team wasn't forced to follow through with the use of gas, as Fields' roommate was able to help talk her out of her hideout.

“No one was hurt,” Booth said.
