Shawnee Public Schools PR and Communications Coordinator Brittany Watts said the district is still working with the city on land for the elementary school and nailing down the exact location that will be best for the city, as well as the district.

“We expect to have a final plan by the time school lets out for the summer break,” she said.

Other improvements around the district are ongoing.

“We are still finishing up the security vestibules at Horace Mann and Sequoyah,” Watts said, “which make progress every day and we are still looking at a mid-spring completion on those.”

She said (contractors and the board) have been working on minor issues throughout each building as problems arise and have a list of new projects coming up this year.
