Prague High School senior Julie Brydon, one of the two October finalists, was named the Shawnee News-Star and Patriot Auto Group Student of the Month for 2019-20.

Prague High School Guidance Counselor Stephanie Leee said Brydon is driven, very active in school as a cheerleader and a sweet young lady.

She is being recognized for her hard work — earning a spot as a finalist for a chance to win a car.

Dedicated to her grades, Lee said Brydon is always driven to be successful.

She maintains a 4.0 GPA and is on track to be valedictorian, Lee said.

“She is enrolled as a concurrent student at Seminole State College,” Lee said.

Brydon has spent more than 800 hours as a volunteer at church and in the community.

Among community service events she has participated in are: making care packages at the HOBY (Hugh O'Brian Youth) Leadership Conference, volunteering at Vacation Bible School, working as football manager, being basketball manager and decorating the community center for the school's Valentine dance and Prom, as well as many other activities.

Awards and honors include academic letter jacket recipient, student council officer, National Honor Society officer, leadership groups member and on various honor rolls.

A large amount of time was devoted to being an ambassador for the Prague Kolache Festival as Kolache Queen. As such, she represented Oklahoma Czechs by speaking and attending events throughout the 2016/2017 school year.

Brydon's parents are Doug and Marria Brydon.

For the third year, Patriot Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Chandler is going to provide a brand new Jeep Renegade for the Patriot Student of the Year to a student from participating high schools in the area.

The Patriot Auto Group is teaming up with The Shawnee News-Star to recognize the area’s best student.

During the school year, two students of the month will be selected by an impartial panel of judges based off nominations from administrators at the school. Those 16 students will be finalists to win the Patriot Student of the Year award and one will drive home in a new car after the May 4, 2020, News-Star fourth annual Best of Preps banquet at FireLake Arena. The remaining 15 students will win scholarships.

Each month administrators at participating area high schools will submit a nomination for a senior who has an excellent grade point average, displays community leadership qualities, is an active volunteer and displays high moral integrity.

Additional sponsors of the program include Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Benchmark Realty, Oklahoma Baptist University, Pioneer Library System, Immanuel Baptist Church Student Ministry and the Citizen Potawatomi Nation.
