Senior Beth Denney is a kind and caring leader at Prague High School and maintains a perfect GPA.

She has been selected as one of The Shawnee News-Star and Patriot Auto Group Students of the Month for October and is now in the running to win a car.

“Beth's moral integrity is one of the highest within Prague schools,” Prague High School Guidance Counselor Stephanie Lee said. “She is always conscientious of the decisions she makes.”

According to Denney's resume, she has logged more than 260 volunteer hours through various community service projects and events. Denney has helped out during softball and basketball camps, tournaments and a mission trip, as well as holiday events like Christmas Lights in the Park, a Christmas Tree Project and Trunk or Treat and Holy Ghost Cafe.

Other service includes working the concession stands at school basketball games, organizing a Care Closet and cleaning First Baptist Church.

Denney is an academic letter jacket recipient, was named Shawnee News-Star Small School Fast Pitch Player of the Year in 2018 and was the USSSA (United States Specialty Sports Association) National Champion for 2017 and 2019.

Lee said Denney is an excellent student with a wonderful attitude who is always willing to help.

“All of our teachers and staff know that Beth will get the job done in a timely manner,” she said. “She can be trusted by our staff and students.”

Denney is signing to play softball at Seminole State College next fall and is planning to major in Secondary Education, Lee said.

Denney's parents are Mike and Leah Denney.

For the third year, Patriot Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Chandler is going to provide a brand new Jeep Renegade for the Patriot Student of the Year to a student from participating high schools in the area.

The Patriot Auto Group is teaming up with The Shawnee News-Star to recognize the area’s best student.

During the school year, two students of the month will be selected by an impartial panel of judges based off nominations from administrators at the school. Those 16 students will be finalists to win the Patriot Student of the Year award and one will drive home in a new car after the May 4, 2020, News-Star fourth annual Best of Preps banquet at FireLake Arena. The remaining 15 students will win scholarships.

Each month administrators at participating area high schools will submit a nomination for a senior who has an excellent grade point average, displays community leadership qualities, is an active volunteer and displays high moral integrity.

Additional sponsors of the program include Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Benchmark Realty, Oklahoma Baptist University, Pioneer Library System, Immanuel Baptist Church Student Ministry and the Citizen Potawatomi Nation.
