VFW hosts Memorial Day ceremonies

Several members of the community and local Cub Scout and Boy Scout troops celebrated Memorial Day weekend by laying out flags and wreaths at various cemeteries.

The Veterans of Foreign Affairs-Shawnee hosted its annual ceremonies for Memorial Day at various cemeteries in Shawnee.a

According to Shawnee VFW member Don Plumley, members of the community visited Fairview Cemetery on Saturday, May 23 to put out American flags.

Of those who visited, Plumley said several were members of local Cub Scout and Boy Scout troops

Plumley also said people laid out wreaths on Memorial Day at the flagpoles at Fairview Cemetery.

In addition, Plumley explained people also laid out wreaths at Veterans Park at the Memorial Wall.

Lastly, Plumley said people are invited to help pick up flags at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26.
