Diane Mary Pongratz, Porum resident, passed away on Monday, Feb. 3, 2020, in Muskogee at the age of 81.

She was born on Thursday, Nov. 24, 1938, to Albert and Dorothy (Nelson) Petersen in Frederic, Wisconsin, and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She graduated from Sacred Heart Nursing School in spring of 1975 after which she and her family moved to Bethel Acres, Oklahoma.

Her career was in geriatrics where she displayed loving care for the elderly at Shawnee Colonial Estates and became Director of Nursing at Shawnee Care Center.

She was a participating Catholic and Eucharistic Minister at St. Benedict Church in Shawnee and also at St. Paul’s Church in Eufaula. Diane and Al moved to Eufaula Lake in Porum Landing in 2001 and enjoyed retiring at the shores edge. Her most enjoying moments were seeing the sunlight glancing over the lake ripples, she called that “Her Sea of Diamonds.” Much of her waking moments had her I-Pad in hand, communicating with friends and family, with her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and lately great-great-grandchildren (through their parents).

She is lovingly survived by her husband Al Pongratz, her children, Theresa Pawlak and her husband Alan, John Pongratz and his wife Judy, and Jerry Pongratz and his wife Donna; her 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Diane is also survived by her brother, Rodney Petersen, her nieces Kelly Petersen and Kathleen Solomon, her nephews, Ryan and Eric Petersen as well as other extended family and a lifetime of friends.

A memorial Mass service celebrating the life of Diane will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 7, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church at Forest Ave. and Sixth Street in Eufaula with Father Kingsley officiating followed by a fellowship and lunch in the Community Hall.
