Letters: Thoughts on Trump; DMVs and Delaware non-profits need to reopen

Delaware News Journal

Trump and FOX

President Donald Trump walks across the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, Sunday, May 17, 2020. Trump was returning from nearby Camp David, Md.

Why are FOX News hosts still hiding in their homes?

President Donald Trump, speaking last week on his favorite network, FOX News, that it is safe to go in restaurants, go to church and to malls to shop.

That was after his photo-op outside a church that he rarely attends. He's never been inside a church except to marry his three wives.

Remember this is the same guy who said bleach is OK to get rid of the coronavirus. He also predicted the virus would disappear around April 1 because of the return of the warm weather.

Maybe he meant April of 2021 — when he's out of office.

DMVs need to reopen

I write seeking assistance in calling attention to the gap in leadership either by the mayor and or governor of Delaware.

I am fully aware that I am not the only one affected by COVID-19. However, as a right-leg-below-the-knee amputee, I have not been able to take my driver's license test because the DMV offices shut down.

That's understandably so, but should not have been done without a contingency plan for those who have a suspended driver's license for medical reasons

Therefore, have I been going without an active driver's license now for almost two full months. A stay on suspended licensing — or anything else besides a flat-out halt on testing — would have helped. Now, I have become in violation of the law.

As a medical case, I needed to go to a rehab center to learn how to drive with adaptive equipment. I completed that task. All I was waiting on was a date to take the test — before everything was shut down. No one at the local DMV can make a special case, because they do not have that authority. Any help calling attention to this matter will be greatly appreciated — thank you.

Allow non-profits to reopen

After sending two emails to the governor's office and receiving two form letter responses that did not answer my question, I am hoping that you will be able to get an answer.

My question is simple: When will non-profit organizations in the state of Delaware be able to open again? Since restaurants can open and other businesses can open with 50 people or so, I cannot understand why non-profits can’t open.

We help the communities, veterans and people in need within our state, yet we cannot open our doors as yet.

Even the casinos have opened.

Could anyone give us a sound reason as to why we can’t? We have the ability to social distance, clean our establishments and wear masks.

Please let us become part of the communities we serve again. Thank you for listening.
