Bison Split with Walk-Off Win
SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist kept up its offense in a split with Oklahoma Christian Friday, losing the first game 9-8 before winning the second in walk-off fashion 7-6.
OBU had 11 hits in the opener, including two each by Brett Berghammer, Josh Timms, Jake Gozzo and PJ Harris.
Timms, who had the game-winning double in the nightcap had three of OBU's 15 hits in that contest. Garrett McKee, Zane Gelphman, Juan Gonzalez, Gozzo and Roy Verdejo had two hits each with Gozzo driving in four runs.
OBU got the first three runs in the opener, including an RBI double by Berghammer in the second inning.
OC scored six times in the fourth and twice in the fifth.
The Bison made it 6-4 in the third on an error and trailed 8-5 after a PJ Harris home run in the fifth. OBU climbed to within 8-7 in the seventh with an RBI single by Gonzalez and a sacrifice fly by Matt Poulin.
OC went up 9-7 with a run in the eighth. OBU got that run back in the home half on a solo home run by Gelphman.
OBU stranded eight runners in the loss.
Mychal Yarbor (0-1) took the loss. Thomas Shroder surrendered one run over 4.2 innings of relief.
Down 3-0 in the second game, the Bison got five runs in the third with an RBI double by McKee, and RBI single by Gonzalez and a three-run home run by Gozzo.
The Eagles scored one in the sixth and two in the seventh to take a 6-5 lead. Gozzo plated the tying run on a fielder's choice to send the game to extra innings.
With two out and two on, Timms ripped a double to deep left center to end the game.
Zach Fowler pitched seven innings and fanned nine before giving way to Caleb Bly (2-0) who pitched a spotless eighth, striking out one.
Now 5-1, the Bison head to Cameron Tuesday for a 2 p.m. game in Lawton.
