Bison women fall at home to Henderson State, 98-84
Hailey Estes and Karrington Whaley each recorded a double-double Saturday as the Henderson State Reddies knocked off the Oklahoma Baptist University Bison, 98-84, in Great American Conference women’s basketball play at the Noble Complex.
Estes poured in 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while Whaley tossed in 17 points and collected 10 boards as Henderson State shot 47.4% from the floor and connected on 42.3% of its 3-point tries (11-of-26).
The Reddies also helped their own cause by knocking down 15-of-19 free throws while holding a 41-30 rebounding advantage.
OBU was limited to 35.9% shooting from the field and just 30.4% (7-of-23) from 3-point territory. The Bison did convert 86.1% of their free-throw attempts.
Jaylin Stapleton fired in a game-high 23 points as she was 6-of-12 from the floor and a perfect 9-of-9 from the charity stripe. Mckenzie Cooper and Charissa Price tallied 14 apiece, Briana Marshall contributed 12 and Melissa Southard, off the bench, tacked on 10.
Stapleton, Price and Marshall each accounted for two treys while Cooper had the other.
Mikayala Shulenberger handed out six assists to go with her seven points.
OBU fell into a 30-16 hole through one quarter and were down by a whopping 58-30 margin a the half, but battled back and outscored Henderson State by a 54-40 margin in the second half, including 29-18 in the fourth quarter.
Each team committed 16 turnovers in the game.
The Bison dropped to 6-15 on the season and 1-13 in the GAC while the Reddies improved to 14-6 and 9-5.
The next action for OBU will be Thursday at home against Southeastern Oklahoma State at 5:30 p.m. at the Noble Complex.
