OBU Cross Country Earns Academic Honors

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist was awarded Academic All-America team honors along with four individual recognitions, the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Friday.

The individual All-Academic honor was awarded to those athletes who have compiled a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25 and finished among the top 30 percent of eligible runners at his or her regional championships and/or the top half of the field at the NCAA Championships.

Jacob Janzen made the list from the men's team with Kaylee Crowson, Sydney Lawrence and Emily Sechrist achieving the honor on the women's side.

Janzen is a junior biochemistry major from Tulsa. Crowson is a junior elementary education major from Rush Springs. Lawrence is a junior pre-allied health major from Stilwell. Sechrist is junior a special education major from Hillsboro, Kansas.

The Lady Bison earned recognition as a 2017 Cross Country Team All-Academic Award recipient with a team grade point average of 3.45. The team is coached by Matt Kennedy.
