KINGSTON — A third-quarter scoring binge was just what second-ranked Dale needed in jump-starting a 64-47 triumph over Rock Creek Thursday in opening-round action of the Kingston Tournament.

Dale led 25-24 at halftime but hit Rock Creek with a 28-7 avalanche in the third quarter.

“We got off to a slow start and didn’t shoot the ball well in the first half,” Dale coach Jeff Edmonson said. “We played really well in the third quarter. We started substituting in the fourth quarter.”

Senior Trae Thompson and junior Carter Crowe headed Dale’s scoring with 14 apiece. Palmer Jones and Ike Shirey chipped in with 11 each.

Dale moves into today’s 5:40 semifinals against the winner of Thursday’s matchup between Atoka and Howe. Dale hasn’t played either team this season.
