McLoud falters at Bethany Classic

BETHANY — It was a rough Thursday for McLoud’s squads at the Bethany Classic.

McLoud’s girls dropped a 60-48 decision to Catoosa and McLoud’s boys fell to Bethany.

In the girls’ game, fourth-seeded Catoosa outscored fifth-seeded McLoud 20-12 in the final eight minutes.

Junior Lexie Boyer was McLoud’s only double-figure scorer with 24 points, including three field goals from 3-point range.

Makyna Higdon added seven points for McLoud.

McLoud, which has utilized three sophomore guards, is 3-7 but six of its losses have come after the Lady Redskins enjoyed fourth-quarter leads.

McLoud connected on 12-of-19 shots from the line. Catoosa was 15-of-21, including 11-of-16 in the fourth quarter.

McLoud drops into today’s 10 a.m. consolation bracket against Hoops For Christ, a home school squad.

Boys

Bethany 77, McLoud 41

McLoud (5-5) received 14 points from junior Tristan Crook, who canned three shots from past the 3-point line.

Bethany, the No. 2 seed, received 28 points from Brennen Burus.

Freshman Luke Norwood of McLoud notched seven points.

McLoud will square off against Piedmont in today’s 2:30 consolation bracket.
