STROUD — Freshman Kenzli Warden netted a combined 12 points in the fourth quarter and overtime Thursday as Tecumseh edged Luther 48-44 in the first round of the Route 66 Tournament.

Tecumseh, seeded sixth, trailed 31-22 entering the fourth quarter but outscored third-seeded Luther 20-11 to earn a 42-all deadlock at the end of regulation.

Warden, who had two 3-point field goals in the fourth quarter, posted two 2-point field goals in overtime as Tecumseh outscored Luther 6-2.

Junior Katelyn LaFrance of Tecumseh finished with 12 points, two of which came in overtime.

Sophomore teammate Schantel Evans had 10 points.

Tecumseh prevailed largely because of its free-throw success, 14-of-18, while Luther was just 5-of-13. Tecumseh’s Taylor Mansell was 5-of-6 from the line.

“We jumped out in front at 7-1 to start the game, but then struggled until the fourth quarter,” Tecumseh coach Eldon Gentry said. “We made smart decisions in the fourth quarter.”

Tecumseh will face Seminole, a first-round winner over Mannford, in today’s 4:20 p.m. semifinals.
