Class 5A No. 3 Wolves drill No. 15 Guthrie

GUTHRIE – Tanner Morris scored nine of his team-high 15 points in the fourth quarter Tuesday night as the Class 5A third-ranked Shawnee Wolves drilled the 15th-ranked Guthrie Bluejays, 66-41, in Suburban Conference basketball action.

Karran Evans, behind 10 second-quarter points, ended up with 14 for the game and Jaylon Orange connected on three 3-point baskets in finishing with 11 points as the Wolves overcame an 18-11 deficit after one quarter and went on a 23-6 run through the second in building a 34-23 halftime cushion.

KaVeon Sharp and Isaiah Willis tallied eight points and J’Briell Easley tacked on six as Shawnee outscored Guthrie by a 32-17 margin in the second half in pulling away.

The Wolves, who improved to 9-2 on the season and bounced back from a finals loss to Ada in the East Central Oklahoma Classic last Saturday, had eight treys in the game. Besides the three from Orange, Evans knocked down two while Morris, Easley and Moses Martinez connected for one apiece.

Kade Whorton was the high scorer for the Bluejays with 16 and teammate TJ Kerry contributed 11.

GUTHRIE 45, SHAWNEE 40, OT (Girls)

Aubrie Megehee poured in a game-high 16 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Bluejays escaped with the overtime victory.

Esabelle Ramirez added nine points and Tristyn Napier finished with eight for the Lady Wolves in a losing effort.

Kyra Wheeler was the high scorer for Guthrie with 14 as she sank four 3-point shots and teammate Braydin Russell chipped in 11, including a pair of treys. McKenna Gatson was next with nine points for the winners.

Both Shawnee teams are home Friday against Piedmont.
