MEEKER — Meeker took both ends of a basketball doubleheader with Stroud Friday night as the girls prevailed 48-42 in the opener and the Bulldogs took a 59-45 bite.

Meeker’s girls avenged an earlier 59-45 loss to Stroud as Madison Hedge led the offense with 14 points. Junior Kaitlyn Culp added nine points as Meeker went to 4-12.

Meeker’s only trey, by Halle Calvillo, gave the victors a four-point lead in the fourth quarter. Meeker took the first quarter, 15-6, then won the last quarter, 16-13.

Stroud had five treys on the night.

Neither team fared well from the free-throw line as Meeker was 7 of 14 and Stroud went 11 of 20.

“We played very patient on offense and looked for the right shot,” said Meeker coach Brady Dukes. “The big difference for us was we defensed their 3-point shooters well. They have the best 3-point shooting team in the conference.”

The Bulldogs received double-figure scoring from Kade Brewster (17), Jake Hilburn (11) and Cade Patterson (10). Hilburn was true on three shots from 3-point range.

Patterson hit 7-of-9 free throws.

Brewster scored in every quarter, including eight in the third.

Stroud was led by Hunter Thompson with 11 points. Chasen Newman finished with 10 and Grant Elerick added nine.

Meeker was never seriously threatened after jumping out to a 16-9 lead after one quarter.

Both Meeker teams will be home against Okemah Tuesday.
