Tecumseh has tough night at Newcastle

NEWCASTLE — Newcastle went 2-0 versus Tecumseh Thursday in Class 4A regional action.

Newcastle’s girls prevailed 57-43 and the Racer boys were 62-41 victors.

Tecumseh’s boys were leveled 21-7 in the first quarter and never recovered in falling to 17-8.

The Savages hit just 30.4% (14-of-46) of their field-goal attempts — 8-of-26 2-pointers and 6-of-20 treys.

Kainan Ryan was Tecumseh’s only double-figure scorer with 10. Emet Longhorn, Brady Overstreet and Ryan knocked down two 3-point field goals. Tecumseh canned just 7-of-17 free throws. Newcastle connected on 12-of-21 charity tosses.

The Savages (17-8) will play Idabel tonight at 8 in an elimination contest at North Rock Creek.


Newcastle 57, Tecumseh 43

Karley Johnson netted 25 points and Reagan Fox added 20 for Newcastle.

Newcastle recorded eight 3-point field goals, with three coming from Johnson.

Junior Katelyn LaFrance was Tecumseh’s only double-figure scorer with 13. Kenzli Warden had nine.

Newcastle, ranked 10th, enjoyed a huge advantage at the charity stripe, hitting 19 of 25 while Tecumseh was just 5 of 6.

Tecumseh starters Schantel Evans, Tawny Billy and Warden had three fouls each in the first half.

Tecumseh (14-11) will oppose Idabel at 6:30 today in a regional elimination game at North Rock Creek.
